Character
Children immediately recognize Ela! by her red heart-shaped nose. The little lamb is as soft as wool and as vulnerable as a child.
But Ela! tackles issues with an exclamation mark and encourages children to tackle them too.
Concept/idea
In the middle of the first lockdown, in April 2020, I developed the character, Ela! She started writing letters to children in the Archdiocese of Cologne about socially relevant topics, and has just kept on writing.
Key facts
- So far, 24 letters ((Fig. Ela letter)) from Ela have been sent to kindergartens, elementary school and open all-day groups. The response has been both overwhelming and motivating.
- The book is designed to be read aloud, and has been available since 2023: „Ela! Mutmachgeschichten mit Herz“ (“Ela! Stories of Courage with Heart and Soul”). Ideal for children aged 5 and over.
- In 2025 Ela will be writing four more letters.
